Abstract

At the beginning of the year 2005, within the frame of the Graduate Programme on Translation and Interpretation imparted by the university of Granada in the city of Mexicali, I began a research with the purpose of observing the translation process per se, to learn about the behaviour and development of the novice translator's skills, when faced with a real translation situation. I aimed at observing the probable external manifestations of his/her cognition when immersed in the translation process, such as decision taking and problem solving, by recording metacognitive strategies (collaborative-reciprocal learning and group tutoring). Besides that, I tried to verify if the general knowledge about what we call TPP (Translation Previous Protocol), is constantly applied prior to the translation of a text, since, influencing positively if this is done, a meaningful learning will be reached by the novice translator, thus providing him/her with more tools that will help their development as expert translators.
