Abstract

In his book Oscar Wilde in Germany and Austria (subtitled) Investigations on the reception of comedies and on the theory of the translation of plays -, Rainer Kohlmayer has chosen an ideal setting to face deep translation problems: it would be difficult to find a theatrical context of greater wealth of multidimensional nuances of the figurative sense than comedy, or a community of speakers with greater virtuosity in handling fine irony than the English people, or a more complex, secret, mysterious, perhaps inaccessible and Verbal and non-verbal codes of communication more intricate than British.
