Abstract

We intend to enquire about the contribution of the impact of borgesian irreverent statements onto literary and geopolitical periphery. We shall see that the essential potential of the periphery lies on the conflictive duality local/foreigner (in Borges' case argentinian/european). It is traditionally considered that translation practice brings as a result by-products or inferior versions, but reading with Borges we can see that it can very well be the engine for innovations, as it defies politically the predominance of the center, it also defies the traditional approaches about influence and originality and the pre-established determinations of aesthetic value and canon formation. We will be dealing with the value of margins and the value of translation.
