About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Mutatis Mutandis is an academic and scientific Latin American Translation journal, with thematic issues and published biannually. This electronic journal has open access and adheres to the policy of a double-blind peer-reviewed system. Created by the Translation Studies Research Group in 2008 under the direction of Professor Martha Pulido, the journal is sponsored by the School of Languages at Universidad de Antioquia.
Mutatis Mutandis’ focus is on the divulgation of original and unpublished research articles in the field of Translation, contributed by local and international specialists. Additionally, the journal encourages academic debate, the consolidation of an academic community around issues of translation, and the circulation of translations, through the publication of reflection papers, interviews, translations, and book reviews. While aimed particularly at specialists in the field (researchers, teachers, undergraduate and postgraduate translation students, and related fields), the publication also addresses professional translators and the public interested in translation and in research on this field.
Peer Review Process
Members of the Editorial and the Scientific Boards first revise articles submitted to the journal.
Then, two evaluators unknown to the authors, in a double-blind peer review process, examine the articles in a period of three or four weeks. At least one of the evaluators is external to the university. Furthermore, evaluators are chosen based on their field of expertise and their academic status (most of them hold at least a Master’s degree).
Once the evaluators give their verdict about the article, the editor along with some members of the Editorial and Scientific Boards take the final decision regarding the publication of the article. The article may be accepted either a) without modifications or b) with some modifications. After receiving the evaluators’ comments, the authors have from two to three weeks to make the necessary changes for the final publication. The article may also be c) rejected and authors receive the evaluations with the editor reasons for the non-acceptance of their article. If the two evaluators’ assessments do not contribute to the editor’s decision-making, a third evaluator is then included to provide another verdict. All articles go through a final revision by the editor once the authors have done the duly modifications according to the suggestions given. The editor has the right to refrain from publishing the article if the author does not apply the recommendations and suggestions for the final version.
We request the Members of the Editorial and Scientific Boards and the evaluators to observe the strictest confidentiality and to declare any conflict of interests.
