Abstract

Health communication has become a central issue in recent decades, especially since the emergence of the patient-centered care paradigm (Epstein et al., 2005; Montalt-Resurrecció and García-Izquierdo, 2016; Muñoz-Miquel and García-Izquierdo, 2020). In the context of the medical humanities paradigm, there is a growing interest in ethical issues and values (Montalt, 2021). Recent research advocates an interdisciplinary approach to communication which takes into account the patients’ needs and expectations, in order to humanize communication (Borja and García-Izquierdo, forthcoming).  In this paper we reflect on the concepts of communication and humanization in the area of health, laying special emphasis on the patients' perspective, and refer to some contributions from research in the field of translation studies that can help humanize such communication. More specifically, we present proposals stemming from recent research projects of the Gentt (Textual Genres for Translation) Group.
