Abstract

This apostil provides a supplement to the critical apparatus included in the French translation of Die Aufgabe des Übertsetsersthat Alexis Nouss and I presented in 1997. I have made some adjustments to our initial translation. I also selected terms that act as indicative of the conceptual framework that runs throughout this essay, for example, the use of the adverb intensiv or the notion ofingenium. Finally, I dedicated a great deal to the importance of the use of metaphors of Kabbalistic origin in order to understand the narrative implemented in Benjamin's prologue, because they inscribe the text in the Jewish mystical tradition. I rather disagree on this point with the lax treatment Antoine Berman has given to this aspect, considering it insignificant or trivial, when in fact, it is the keystone of the metaphysics of language developed by Benjamin.
