Thematic categorization of cultural analysis: a proposal for translation

Abstract

This article analyzes the cultural referents of various literary texts and their translation from Spanish to German and English based on the development of a methodological tool for cultural analysis. Firstly, it makes a brief tour of the state of the art in relation to the translation of cultural elements, the main existing classifications and theories in order to develop the tool to, finally, present some examples of how cultural references have been translated into the study corpus. One of the main conclusions is the tendency to neutralize or search for a functional equivalent in the translation work of this type of works.
