La brecha de género en la inteligencia artificial: análisis de traducciones de textos sanitarios para la población migrante

ChatGPT es una herramienta de inteligencia artificial que se ha convertido en una de las más utilizadas por el público a nivel mundial. Entre sus diversas utilidades, cuenta con la capacidad de traducción de textos a diferentes lenguas. El presente estudio cualitativo se propuso analizar la capacidad de ChatGPT para traducir textos del inglés al español, relacionados con la migración y la salud, haciendo uso del lenguaje inclusivo, con el fin de evaluar su eficacia y consistencia en dicho contexto lingüístico y temático. Para ello, se partió de un corpus de 12 687 palabras de textos sanitarios traducidos para la población migrante que cuenta con el español entre sus lenguas. Los textos fueron trabajados con y sin preedición, de modo que se pudo evaluar y analizar los sesgos previos del sistema. Los resultados muestran una brecha del 100 % en la traducción de textos sin prompts (indicaciones) específicos, y del 54,5 % a la ahora de traducir párrafos completos, que se reduce al 9,1 % en el caso de oraciones. Del análisis de los resultados se dedujo que, si bien la inteligencia artificial puede ser una herramienta útil para profesionales de la traducción, la supervisión humana sigue siendo clave, especialmente en los ámbitos de diversidad cultural y sexual, como es el caso del uso del lenguaje inclusivo de género en español. Con los resultados mostrados pretendemos generar una reflexión crítica ante los retos que plantea el uso de la inteligencia artificial en la traducción y, por tanto, los futuros retos en su implementación, así como evidenciar sesgos de género en estos procesos automatizados y aportar una valoración real de su incidencia en los actuales estudios de género.
