Reading literary texts

Abstract

The transmitor (author) through lexical selectionproduces meaning: the onomasiological operation. In the literary text, the author creates a metaphor stemming from a common sema. The receiver (reader) understands the metaphor through the semasiological operation. The author of this article offers an analysis of the word «blood», in Jorge de Lima's piece of poetry, O grande desastre aéreo de Ontem.
