Abstract

This paper aims to provide an overview of publications on business translation by American authors through a bibliometric study. The bibliographic corpus was obtained from the bibliographic database specialized on interpreting and translation bitra, as well as from a series of complementary searches in different American catalogs. Different bibliometric indicators of production, authorship or content, among others, are used, and a comparative inter- and intracontinental analysis is carried out in order to determine the position of American business translation within the global panorama. Compared with the rest of the world, the results suggest a relatively limited research output but an important contribution by translators, which would bring this type of publications closer to the professional world. Also, different growth patterns and interests are observed in the samples of the most productive American countries (United States, Canada, Argentina and Brazil). This study opens the door to new avenues of research that may enrich comparative literature on the international level and that may be useful to future doctoral students.
