The author looks at pedagogical activity (both education and intellectual growth generally) from the standpoint of Descartes' “Search for Truth Through Natural Light”, drawing particularly on the French philosopher's system of "Cartesian doubt" as an analytical tool. The foundation of critical reflection is founded on the correct use of human reason: an individual process which is nevertheless dependent on dialogue.
