Translating in one’s native language?

Defining translation as ‘saying in one language (L1) what was said or written in another (L2)’ seems like a platitude. But this is not so, because, according to the prefix trans-, ‘to the other side’, and to latiō, the supine form of the root ferō, ‘to carry’, what is said or written can always be carried over from one place to another, even if that ‘other place’ or ‘other side’ is within the same language. The purpose of this text is showing that ‘one language’ (L1) and ‘another language’ (L2) can be the same language, and that that same language (L1=L2) is one’s native language.
