Résumé

L'utilisation de la langue maternelle ou première langue (L1) dans les cours de langues étrangères a suscité des controverses au cours des dernières décennies. Cet article traite de l'utilisation de la L1 dans les cours semi-présentiels au niveau élémentaire d’Espagnol Langue Étrangère (ELE), en se concentrant sur des forums de discussion en ligne sur des sujets culturels. Après avoir discuté de l'utilisation de la L1 dans l'enseignement des langues étrangères, sont présentés les postulats de Vygotsky (1978) sur l'apprentissage et la théorie de l'activité proposée par Cole et Engeström (2001). Ensuite, la classe ELE est analysée comme un système d'activité, ce qui la limite à l'utilisation de la L1 dans les forums de discussion en ligne. Il est conclu que, dans le cadre conceptuel des théories socioculturelles, il faut utiliser la L1 dans les forums de discussion en ligne car elle constitue un outil cognitif nécessaire pour promouvoir l'apprentissage interculturel.

Graduated from the Language Literacy and Culture PhD program at University of Maryland Baltimore County where she taught Spanish for 9 years. She currently lives in Argentina and she holds a posdoctoral scholarship from CONICET (National Council of Scientific and Technological Research).
