Abstract

This article will present some notes on audiovisual translation (AVT) by briefly tracing its history, by explaining the techniques used in it, mainly in subtitling, by describing the training of AV translators and interpreters in Europe, and by presenting a list of recommendations made by the International Federation of Translators (FIT). It is important to emphasize that many of the statements included in this text come from the author’s practice, as this field of translation lacks its own academic-professional space for theoretical discussion, even in industrialized countries.
