Abstract

The author presents a critical understanding of the dimensions of English teaching and learning in Colombia. The criteria for language teaching is market-based. His reflection leads him to consider their political. economical and cultural aspects; among them, the author states that Die needs of capital determine both the language taught and the way it Is taught.

Author Biography

Jacob Lagnado, Universidad de Antioquia

Licenciado en Spanish and Latinamerican Studies (with minor in Historia) de la University of North London. Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) del institute of Linguists de Londres.  Profesor de Cátedra en la Escuela de Idiomas de la Universidad de Antioquia entre 1996 y 1997.   Actualmente trabaja con la comunidad hispano hablante en Londres como intérprete, traductor y asesor para organizaciones de apoyo al inmigrante y al refugiado.   Colaborador con cuentos y artículos publicados en diversos medios de prensa y medios literarios en Colombia e Inglaterra.  .
